| Arts Council England | Evaluation of a scheme to help the public buy contemporary art |
| <back | |
Own Art is a scheme funded by Arts Council England that provides interest free loans to people who would like to buy a piece of contemporary art from an approved gallery. Each year, the galleries are required to complete a return providing information about the number and types of work that have been sold through Own Art and the impact of the scheme on their business. For the first time, the Arts Council also wished to learn more about the artists whose work is shown by these galleries and find out what they think of the scheme. On-line surveys, supplemented as necessary by postal questionnaires, were conducted and thirty artists followed up in telephone interviews. The study enabled the Arts Council to find out more about the artists and their practice, the value of the scheme for them, and how they thought it might be developed. |
